Commissioned to the Work of Jesus
(John 14:7-14)

I. Jesus has finished the work that the Father sent him to do. He has left the rest of the work in the hands of the those who have made a commitment to follow Him.

I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. (John 9:4)

A. Jesus was confident in "those who believe in Him." (John 14:12)

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father

B. Jesus recieved authority and power from the Father and has passed it on to us.

And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

II. What kind of work did Jesus do?

And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto Him whom He would: and they came unto Him. And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils. (Mark 3:13-15)

A. He proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom to everyone who would hear Him.

And as ye go, preach, saying, Repent the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Matthew 10:7)

B. He healed the sick.

Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:14-16)

C. He cast out demons.

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy : and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:17-19)

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. (1 Corinthians 10:20-21)

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)

III. Jesus called and commissioned the twelve, then the seventy,  then as many as would believe on Him. Since you have been called, will you receive a commission?

If you ask anything in my name I will do it. (John 14:14)
