The Power of Being Sent
(John 20:21)

I. Jesus made it clear that He was sent by God the Father to the world for a mission.

And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen his shape. (John 5:37)

I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again I leave the world and go to the Father. (John 16:28)

To this end was I born and for this cause came I into the world that I may bear witness of the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. (John 18:37)

II. There are great possibilities for anyone who is sent by God.

A. Powerful, miraculous works will follow you.

But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear withness of me, that the Father hath sent me. (John 5:36)

And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly it will by no means hurt them, they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. (Mark 16:17-18)

B. You will be transformed into a powerful witness for Christ.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:44)

C. You will have powerful answers to your prayers. (John 14:12; 16:26)

And whatever you ask in my name I will do If you ask anything in my name I will do it.

D. You will never feel alone again.

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. (John 8:29)

E. You will learn to live by the power of God.

As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. (John 6:57)

F. You will be able to see life from God's perspective.

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. (John 5:30)

III. You can only be sent if you go where He sends you. (John 20:21)

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. (John 20:21)

A. God has always sent men and women to places and times to this world.

Abraham: Get thee out of thy country from your father's house to a land that I will show thee. (Genesis 12:1)

Jeremiah: But the Lord said unto me say not I am a child, for thou shalt go unto all that I send thee. (Jeremiah 1:7)

Isaiah: Here am I send me. (Isaiah 6:8)

John: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. (John 1:6)

B. The great question before us is, can God send you?
