The Enjoyment of God

I. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

A. The purpose of man is to bring glory to God and in that pursuit you experience the greatest joy that can be found on this side of heaven, enjoying God.

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. 6:20; 10:31)

1. By letting your light shine before men. (Matthew 5:16)

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

2. By praising Him in fiery trials. (James 1:2; Isaiah 24:15)

Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. (Isaiah 24:15)

3. In your thought life and speech. (Romans 15:6)

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

4. When you suffer and yet give thanks for all that God has done for you.

Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. (1 Peter 4:16)

5. By the offering of praise. (Psalms 50:23)

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

B. The Result of bringing glory to God is to experience the enjoyment of God. (1 Tim.6:17)

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

1. The food that you eat. (Psalms 103:5)

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

2. The work of your hands. (Ecclesiastes 2:24; 3:22)

There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God. Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

3. The words of your mouth and the thoughts of your heart. (Psalms 19:14)

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (proverbs 18:21)

4. A soul mate especially suited to you.

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. (Proverbs 5:18-19)

II. When you glorify God you will experience the manifestations of God.

Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. (Psalms 16:11)

Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord. (Psalm 144:15)

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. (1 Cor. 12:7)

Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. (2 Corinthians 4:10-11)

III. The quick track to glorifying God and fully enjoying Him is to confess Jesus as Lord.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11)
