Let Jesus Put You to Work in His Church (Ephesians 4:8-13)

I. For the perfecting of the saints.

A. What does a perfect saint look like?

1. They look like Christ in personality. (Galatians 5:22-26)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

2. They feel like Christ in their emotions (Matthew 5:4; 9:36).

Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.

But when He saw the multitudes He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

3. They act like Christ in their conduct (Mathew 5:19, 1 John 3:8, John 10:10).

And he saith to them, Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

For the Son of man has come to seek and save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)

He that commits sin is of the devil, for the devil sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil.

The thief but I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.

II. For the work of the ministry. (2 Corinthians 3:18-4:1)

But we all with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. Therefore, seeing we have received this ministry, as we have received mercy we faint not.

  1. The ministry of Christ involves hard work and literally giving your life.

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28)
  2. Hard work involves things you do not necessarily like to do.

  3. Using your gift always blesses you, working in the ministry always blesses others.

III. For the edifying of the body of Christ. (vs. 12; 16)

  1. You must lose your self-absorption & really focus on others in order to edify the body.
  2. You must be skilled in communicating grace in your speech & songs. (vs. 29; Col. 3:16)

  3. You have an assignment to the members closest to you in church and family to build them up "in love" And above all have fervent love among yourselves for love. (1 Peter 4:8)
