The House that Love Built
(Proverbs 14:1; Psalms 127:1)
A man can make a living, but it takes a woman to make a home.
1. A mother builds a home with the personal attributes of her life. (Proverbs 31:11-31)
A. She builds by establishing trust. (vs. 11)
B. By doing good and not evil. (vs. 12)
C. She is a willing and hard worker. (vs. 13)
D. She provides food from afar. (vs. 14)
E. She rises while it is night. (vs. 15)
F. She is a good business woman. (vs. 16)
G. She’s concerned about her families appearance. (vs. 27)
H. Strength and honor are her clothing. (vs.25)
I. She knows how to dress up and look good. (vs. 22)
II. She builds her home with unconditional love. (1 Peter 4:8; Titus 2:4)
A mother is an embodiment of God that a man can never be. Within her, the mother, are instincts and tender emotions that can communicate warmth, security, and the feeling of being loved that every child needs to ground them in life. It is one of the greatest tragedies in life for a child to miss a mother’s love and the greatest gift to have received it.
III. She builds her home with submission to God and her husband. (Ephesians 5:22)
IV. She builds her home by sharing with her husband the grace of life. (1 Peter 3:7)
Consider the baby in the mother’s womb.
A. The baby receives without even asking everything necessary for life.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. (Matthew 6:8)
B. When the baby is resting asleep in the mother, she is working to meet all of his needs.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
C. The baby’s peace and security is maintained by the constant beat of his mother’s heart.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3)
D. The baby’s life is hidden in the life of the mother.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3)
V. Behold your mother. (John 19:25-26)
A. Believes in you the most. (John 2:5)
B. Closest to your cross. (John 19:25)
C. Most willing to share your pain. (Luke 2:35)
