Writing on the Heart with the Spirit of the Living God
(2 Cor. 3:3)

Someone has said that our life is a story that is being told or a book that is being written. And we
ourselves are the author. We might never want to publish that book here on the earth, but you can
be sure it has been published in Heaven. There are two very important books in Heaven for every
one of us to be mindful of: The Book of Life and the Book of Your Life. One day you and God
will critique both of those books together.

I. How to write on your own heart.

A. You need a clean, honest heart with a good conscious and genuine faith.
(1 Tim. 1:5; Rom. 10:5)

If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation. (Rom. 10:10)

B. You need a ready eager tongue guided by the Holy Spirit. (Ps. 45:1;Eph. 5:18-19; 2 Cor. 3:4)

My heart overflows with a goodly matter; I speak the things which I have made touching the
king: My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. (Psalm 45:1)

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,  speaking
to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your
heart to the Lord. (Eph. 5:18-19)

This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved
not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts. (2 Cor. 3:4)

C. Choose to believe every word of God is true and make an effort to engage your body in acts
of obedience until wisdom enters your heart and spiritual habits are formed in your body.
(Proverbs 2:10)

When wisdom enters your heart and knowledge is pleasant to your soul discretion will
perserve you and understanding will keep you. (Pro. 2:10-11)

II. How to write on the hearts of others with the Spirit of the Living God.

A. Consider others for the purpose of encouraging them. (Heb. 10:24)

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,  not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so
much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Heb. 10:24-25)

B. Seek and speak the truth in love. (John 8:31-32; Eph. 4:15)

Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are
truly my disciples,  and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. (John 8:31-32)

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the
head of his body, the church. (Eph. 4:15)

C. Seek first to understand others before insisting to be understood. (1 Kings 3:9-10)

Give thy servant therefore an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this thy great people? And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. (1 Kings 3:9-10)

D. Speak with grace becoming free to express the feelings of God to others

E. Be sure to think before you speak. (Pro. 16:23)

Intelligent people think before they speak; what they say is then more persuasive. (GNT)

A wise person's heart controls his speech, and what he says helps others learn. (GWT)

F. Remember sometime you say it best when you say nothing at all. (Pro. 17:28)

Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise: And he that shuts his mouth is esteemed a man of understanding! (Pro. 17:28)

G. Remember that you can write something destructive on the tablet of a tender heart in minutes
that may take years to erase.

III. Seek to understand the most important truths and do them in order to grow up in Christ.
(John 14-17)

At that moment you will know absolutely that I'm in my Father, and you're in me, and I'm in you. (John 14:20 MSG)
